Native to: Nowhere, as it is a modern hybrid of the Desert Willow and Southern Catalpa
Description: The Chitalpa is a deciduous tree that branches readily near its base with ascending branches. Its leaves are long, lanceolate (spear shaped) and are found in whorls (bunches) of three. It has trumpet shaped frilly flowers that are approximately 2.5cm long.
Fact: This is a very young species. Chitalpas were created as hybrids in 1964 by A. Rusanov of the Botanic Garden of the Uzbek Academy of Sciences in Uzbekistan.
